STARBUCKS & Global Warming!
“The way I see it #289:
So-called “global warming” is just a secret ploy by wacko tree-huggers to make America energy independent, clean our air and water, improve the fuel efficiency of our vehicles, kick-start 21st – century industrials, and make our cities safer and more livable. Don’t let them get away with it! - - Chip Giller, founder of Grist.org, where environmentally minded people gather online.”
I normally go out of my way to support my local coffee shops especially if they have a good coffee and good customer service. Well, I boycotted Starbucks two years ago for a while after I heard that they support the war and part of the money we pay for our coffees goes toward it. But recently I started getting my coffee from there once in a while since most of my local coffee shops have gone out of business and also I gave Starbucks the benefit of the doubt that everyone makes mistakes once.
I guess few people like me actually read ‘the way I see it’ in the back of their cups. Most of the times I find their quotes very interesting and educational, BUT this weekend when I saw this one I got really furious. I was thinking maybe the people at Starbuck are really trying hard to support and cheer for our president’s belief on this matter. But this is San Francisco, they MAY get away with these ideas somewhere else but not here.
Do you think the disclaimer at the bottom of their ‘The Way I see it’: – This is the author’s opinion, not necessarily that of Starbucks. — is enough so they can publish whatever they want!
I am a business owner too, I do believe in our constitution rights. However if I do believe in global warming AND if I am sending out something which has my name and stamp on it, I certainly would not advertise an ignorant comment like this. Granted thousands of people hold this cup which includes our teenagers, do we want to educate them this way. Now that Starbucks is the leader in our coffee industry, should it leave this impression on our teens and make them believe in it and lead our world with it?!!!

It’s a pro-environmental message. :) He’s just being sarcastic in saying it.

I believe this is meant to be sarcastic. Chip Giller is a well known environmentalist, sometimes considered a bit of an extremist, and grist.org has a reputation for tongue-in-cheek commentary.
If you read the last line ‘…and make our cities safer and more livable. Don’t let them get away with it!’ is his way of mocking the obvious.
An article on Chip Giller:

That’s sarcasm. 100% and a quick search on the internet would have told one that.
The story about Starbucks supporting the war is a complete fabrication. Please people, check such stories at snopes.com before perpetuating rumors that fill our inboxes.
On Snopes.com youll find stories about Starbucks supporting the war, of their not supporting the war, of their supporting arms to Isreal and all the other hubris. All proven false. Starbucks sent free food to the troops in support of troops. Thats not supporting a war.
I’ve protested the war from the beginning, but Id send food to the troops. I’m sure you would to. Most troops are just misinformed, not war-mongers.
